Here's an off topic...uuuhhh, topic. With this ol' back-o-mine I sometimes get lotsa laptop, tv and a little guitar time. Anyone else watch "Deadliest Catch"? Or "Dirty Jobs"? Or "Ax Men"? Or how about "Gene Simmons Family Jewels"? Then there's the "Seinfeld" reruns that I'll watch for as long as they run 'em. I've become a couch potato!!

IMO ...
Deadliest Catch ... is a job that no matter how much money you paid me I would never do. I have watched it occaionally, but one show seems to be about the same as the one before it.
Dirty Jobs ... this is one of my husbands and 16 year old sons' favorites.
Ax Men ... I've never heard of that one; nor, have I ever heard of or watched Gene Simmons Family Jewels.
Seinfeld ... I can wile away hours watching this show, in spite of the fact that I have seen every episode numerous times.
Personally, I read alot ... probably subscribe to a dozen magazines (several of them being trade related), as well as others like Readers Digest. Also take the New York Times and Wallstreet Journal, along with local newspaper.
Have become a political junky over the past year ... I rarely miss an episode of Hardball, Countdown with Keith, David Gregory, or new Rachael Maddow show ... all on MSNBC. You could not pay me to watch one minute of FOX news (which is IMO nothing more than Republican propaganda from spin rooms). Of course everyone has their own opinion when it comes to politics and who they support; but I am definitely an OBAMA supporter. My feeling is just because someone (McCain) was a war hero and served his country in the military (for which I salute him), does not make him capable, nor do I feel he has the temperment, to serve as President ... then there is that moron (his attack dog sidekick) Palin that could not tell the truth if her life depended on it (she opens her mouth and proves this constantly) and by no means does she has the knowledge or intellgence to serve as VP (much less President if McCain didn't last anothe 4 years). McCain thinking that he could draw woman voters that may have support Hillary with Palin is an insult to all woman with a brain ...comparing Hillary with Palin is like comparing an Igloo with the White House. I feel that Republican rule (under King George W) has brought about the financial and economical wasteland that we currently find ourselves in ... McCain would be no different than Bush; I'm voting for change "with OBAMA and BIDEN." Suppose I should not air my political opinions on this board, but they just sprang out. If I have offended anyone with my opinions I apologize.

Not a thing wrong with sharing opinions...if our conversations/discussions take us there I think we're reasonable enough to handle it. I used to read so much and followed politics as well...lately I'm not as informed as I once was. Concentration and memory elude me a lot of the time. I'm gonna be the poster boy for the war against drugs. Canada held it's Federal Election yesterday. This was something Harper said he would not do...call an early election. He did. Guess what? Tah-dah...very, very little changed. Harper is still our Prime Minister, no surprise...there was no legitimate competition. Locally, Peter MacKay remained in power...same situation. It's the same story just about everywhere in Canada...the election was nothing more than a collossal waste of time, money and effort. Again...no surprise. I'm pretty much a full blown couch potato now and know my way around the TV quite well. I'm watching Seinfeld as I type this...I've seen 'em all many times and still enjoy it. I like the old sitcoms too "All In The Family", "The Jeffersons", "Sanford And Son" and the others like that.

I love the classic TV shows of the past ... the new ones, with VERY few exceptions just don't cut it, and if you have seen them once they become a re-run and I have no desire to see them again.
Personally I think you should somehow break into custom design work. You have a real talent. Contractors can use a pattern, just as a seamtress does, using their tools to engrave it; but, most have trouble coming up with a pattern and laying it out. If they could give you a photo of the image they want (say a duck, deer, car, fish, palm tree, or whatever) and provide you with the scale (size/dimentions of it) ... you could make them a pattern to lay out on the concrete. If the pattern was done on some sort of paper that is tacky on one side, it could be stuck down to the concrete temporarily (just long enough to engrave it along the lines of your pattern) and presto you would have saved them a great deal of time drawing it out (which is something that in all probability they found challenging to do themselves, if they could at all). Another idea, again taken from sewing, would be if some sort of carbon paper could be placed on the concrete, under the pattern, with the contractor tracing your pattern from its top side, with the pattern transfering down to the concrete beneath it by the carbon/tracing paper; lines could then be engraved, and surface scrubbed/washed to remove any fine residue from the carbon paper (if there was any at all).

Heh,heh...custom design?...thanx. I'm an admitted doodler. From logos to landscape I doodle it. I'm doin' my part to keep the paper industry healthy. I do enjoy it and it's something I can do even with the bad back. I tell myself every day that when my lawsuit is settled I will be in a position to make some changes. The changes will accomodate my new limitations and hopefully I can do the design and plan thing. I need a bigger shop as well...it was in the planning stage when my life took a change. I guess we're kind of in limbo right now. Once I'm able, a new shop will happen and laborers are easy to get...I have a "daydream" I guess you could call it. The lawsuit has taken a few significant steps forward so I just keep planning and dreamin' for now. I'm normally a person of action, I like to make things happen, so this state of limbo is incredibly frustrating. Thanx for the encouragement...it helps. Just to stay on the topic of TV...I'm watching Judge Judy right now.

Jude Judy ... my husband loves to watch her! I occasionally join him, but I think she sometimes goes overboard as to being really mean to people. My favorite judge show is Joe Brown, he's a nice guy, I also liked Judge Marilyn since she hears everyone out without having the derogatory attitude of Judge Judy. I guess I just like people to express their thoughts, opinions, and stances in a more sincere kindhearted way.
I hope that you are able to settle your case soon; enabling you to get on with your life, as well as save the forests that are currently consuming with your doodling on paper.

When I'm in "couch mode" I watch all of the judges and I like 'em all. What they say about Marilyn is true...she is the hottest judge on television. ;D
Next month...the 16th...I have an interview with the lawyer for the defence at my lawyer's office. Apparantly that's a big step in the right direction. My lawyer says that he expects them to do an admission after the interview. If they do, all that's left to question is the settlement amount. They do not want this to get inside a courtroom. So, we're likely lookin' at next spring - early summer. Until you go through something like this you really can't imagine how every little aspect of your life is affected...and I hope that none of you ever do.

I was watching Dirtiest Jobs and he was working on Wind Generators doing routine maintenance on them. They climbed up the ladder inside some 200 ft up and out on top to check bolts, No way could you get me out there that high. Then they went inside and cleaned up all the oil leaks as they collect dust which hurts the bearings. One guy got bit by a rattler and had to climb down and by the time he got to the hospital it had made it all the way up to his shoulder. They figured the snake got in before they erected the tower as it laid on the ground for awhile

Frasier, M*A*S*H* and Gilligan's Island too! ;D I like Looney Tunes and Wile E. is my personal mascot...I've got decals of him holding the Road Runner (by the neck) As for newer sitcoms I get a kick outta "Two And A Half Men". Lately I've been watching "Family Guy" too. It can be crude at times but the underlying humor cracks me up. The lines have multiple layers with hidden meanings...I like that.

Climbing 200' up a ladder ... I shutter to even think about it; something else you could not pay me enough money to do. One time we were on a family vacation in Colorado. There was some sort of fire tower that the public could go up on a mountainside (of course it had a staircase, but it was open air type one. ; it My husband, daughter, and son, peer pressured me into climbing up it with them; I gave in although I was quite nervous. I did okay until we got the the top, since I was focused on climbing up, but once I got to the top on the observation deck and the clouds were blowing over the sky, and I looked down I couldn't move. I had very bad vertigo, to the point that I was dizzy; this lead to me getting down on my hands and knees. I couldn't seem to move ... they all kept telling me to get up (my daughter said, mom people are looking, get up), but I just couldn't seem to do it for several minutes. The climb down took forever, I could feel the tower moving in the in wind, which made matters even worse. Balconies on motels/hotels don't bother me since I feel secure on them, but going up a high ladder or open tower, is NOT for me. The motion of a majority of rides at theme parks and fairs get to me as well, so most of them are out too ... I tell them, go for it, while I wait for you.

I like heights. They used to thrill me. I've insulated the highest stacks (power plant smoke stacks) in Nova Scotia while hanging on a small braided steel cable. The highest is 550' and I would time my swing with the sway of the structure...awesome! ;D
I'm watchin' UFC right now...anybody else into that?

New series on A&E called "Rookies". It's about rookie cops fresh outta the academy. They're with their partner/trainers on the job. It's not bad...has potential to be interesting and entertaining I think. There was one fella that I could tell wasn't gonna last...he wasn't very smart. At the end there was a caption stating that he had quit. All in all, not a bad show.
