The holiday season has arrived, which soon will mark the end of one year and the beginning of a new one. January will bring with it a clean slate to build our futue's on.
2008 has not been great, but we have all survived , and will continue to do so as long as we keep the faith . So many people have not been as fortunate; having even lost the roofs over their heads due to the record number of foreclosures as they attempt to deal with the cold harsh realities of our downward spiralling economy ... I pray they quickly find their way back to peace and prosperity.
We all need to "play it forward" as to helping others whenever we can that are less fortunate than we are. Even the smallest effort, such as donating a toy for tots or some other local charity that brings joy and lets others know that they are not alone in the world shows them that their are people that really care about their current plight. This is one of the reasons for the season.
I don't think there is a red kettle (Salvation Army) that I pass without dropping a few coins into it (small change does add up); also took part in a local charity in which you "adopt a needy family" anonomously for Christmas" (are given the names and ages of children, then purchase gifts, which are delivered to them by the organization). My mother and a group of her friends visit nursing homes and bring them small gifts to light up their holidays. My son is a football player, as well as in the band at his high school ... band, athletic, choir, and performing arts students at his school all volunteered for the Feast of Sharing this year (some helped cook, others served or cleared tables) as hundreds of people were fed a Christmas dinner at our local convention center (when he came home, he was quite taken by how many needy people there were in our city/community and told me that he and his friends really enjoyed helping out at this annual event, pledging to do so again next year).
May all of you find warmth, peace, and joy in the company of family and friends. Whether you know it or not, you are blessed in so many ways. Everything will be fine in 2009; all you have to do is believe in yourself, do your best, and keep the faith.
