I was asked to make, deliver and install some caps for a retaining wall today. I was already contracted to do a vertical stamp job on the wall (cinder block) and they had planned to use the caps from a mass producer. It's very simple and cheap to do, so I'm glad it came my way. I need to be finished there by July 4th or 5th so I'll post a pic when it's done.

We got a start on the cap stones. They're 36" long by 2" thick by 10" wide. On the "face" edge I am using my split face form because we want it to look like natural stone. I smear-trowelled some gray color hardener on after the excess water had bled off. Not lookin' too bad, if I do say so myself...in fact, I'll be surprised if much staining will be required. I need to make about 30' of these straight ones and two corner pieces with about 24" on both sides. It's a cool little job.

For these capstones...I made 'em in 36" pieces and at 2" thick by 10" wide I was getting 1 section per 60lb bag of sandmix. I put a piece of reinforcing mesh in each and a little color hardener. Production materials wouldn't have cost more than $10.00. ;D The wall is in 2 sections of 16' straight run and 32" of perpendicular return at 2 corners. I held 'em down with PL Premium adhesive and caulked the gaps between with a tinted flexible compound. This is an easy project that can be marked up for great profit if anyone's interested. I got $800.00 for this particular job (plus the vertical overlay portion).
