So I go on this big cross country by rail adventure back in '86. Started out right here in Nova Scotia and made my way to Vancouver Island, B.C...NO not as a hobo...YES it was a cool trip. Stopped in a bunch of places here and there along the way. Anyway the World Expo was takin' place at the time and I checked out some of it...very cool. The most memorable exhibit was this huuuge concrete highway...It sprang from the ground skyward like a ginormous ribbon complete with actual vehicles attached...cars, big trucks, motorcycles and even a helicopter. The whole deal was encased in concrete!! It musta been some sorta sign 'cause I was very much impressed with it. Ever since then the capabilities of concrete have amazed me. I got into decorative 'crete with the stain and engrave thing at first...I was searching and researching some sort of niche for me to make money and enjoy all of the capabilities of concrete. I had worked with concrete at a structural level off and on for years and now I'm sculpting with concrete and other decorative things as well...on a much, much smaller scale than that highway sculpture of course. Isn't it funny how that impacted me? And aren't I an odd one? ;D Any other self-admitted odd ones out there? Or how about just your story of how you got into the biz?

My house was about to foreclose and my wife and I were prepping for the fall and the future recooperation from it. I was going to save some money and move back to Texas, my brothers would all help me in using their credit to get back on my feet and one was going to get me in on his crew making some good money. I asked him what about some biz possibilities since we both worked in constr. and he said to look into concrete staining. I was going to call a friend on a Mon. to ask what he knew about it and meanwhile on the weekend I researched concrete staining, I ran into EAC and was blown away by it. I showed my wife and said "should we do it?" and she said, "you think you can?" I said yes and we went to the bank the following days to apply for a loan and 3 weeks later I was on a plane to Florida!!

Some investors took over my house to try to help me and well, long story short, no one expected the market to go so sour. The investors invested a lot of money but still had to let go of house. My credit is now in dumps but all of this allowed me to get my biz up and running. So,oh well. I just knew there was something out there for me but I was waiting for the right biz opportunity and it would have to be something that I liked and would have fun doing.

Actually it's around 76 degrees but what's one degree? Just kidding. That holds true I believe for San Diego and the coastal communities. I actually live what WE call Inland, I'm about 20 minutes drive from the ocean and about 30 minutes from San Diego downtown. We are just over these little hills and here in Escondido we tend to get normal weather in the 70s-105. We probably stay in the high 80s to 90s in the summer, in the winter we probably stay in the 50-60s? We have an extension of the San Diego Zoo here and it's about a 5 minute drive from my house. It's called the Wild Animal Park and it's more of an open safari type natural setting. We just went there on Sat. as we have season passes, it was quite awesome we went in the evening and all of the animals were very active especially the lions and cheetahs. We are surrounded by mountains and they look nice with hints of snow in winter (does not snow her in Esco). Escondido is quite a place, it is centrally located to San Diego and all of the surrounding communities and all of the events that SD has to offer, which is a lot. My relatives love to visit as they have a personal guide with them (me). I know San Diego quite well and all of the jewels to visit. If you ever come out let me know and I can let you know where to go and how to go about planning your stay as what to see. It's a lot, every time my family comes I take them some where different. They have visited about 5 or 6 times and we go numerous places. That's just in S.D. we have not even begun to go to L.A. area. Hope this answered your question and more.
